Filmmaker Biography:
Johnny Allen Shaw was born on the edge of an urban Indian reservation; a latch-key kid and only child to a single mother — a nurse in a psychiatric hospital. With his grandfather’s alcoholism, Johnny left home around age 14 and wandered drunk and homeless from coast to coast for 15 years before he managed to quit drinking, go to college and come up from the streets — for a minute.

Fully schooled in digital arts and a qualifying musician, Johnny headed back to the streets to find his way — without alcohol — and serve as an example to other street people. After experimenting with several ways of “making it” with no place to keep anything, he found that a laptop and camcorder were the only logical things to own due to their portability, re-charge-ability, their general synergy and the fact that their resulting product (video) was also a virtual inventory that could be burned to order right out of the laptop. Here was a walking factory with no overhead.

Now he has two, feature documentaries under his belt, worldwide distribution and the respect of his community. This from the once drunken runaway form the reservation.

I’ll be in Orlando in April and want to bring home rumcakes, but I wont be any where that would sell them that I know of like Key West, Naussa or a Cruise Ship which is where I normally get them. Thanks!

Nope nothing at the airport. My mom did buy some at BJ’s wholesale warehouse kinda like Sams or Costco here not too long ago.

During the holiday time they also sell them at the center booths in the mall here…

We’re gonna fly into tampa, go to busch gardens,and visit my uncle in Bradenton. Were planning on ending up in the keys and going home from there most likely. any suggestions for things to do?

go fishing, snorkle the reef, go for a sunset sail on a tallship

1966 album For the Night People

After 1959’s excellent Julie…at Home, a small-group West Coast session cut in her own living room, Julie London’s albums became increasingly orchestral and less jazzy during the first half of the ’60s. While many of these albums are excellent (particularly Around Midnight), most weren’t up to her best recordings from the 1950s. Then, in 1965 something changed, and stripped-down jazz backings reappeared on her albums until her notorious final disc went soft rock with a vengeance in 1969. For this album, the West Coast arranger and bass player Don Bagley combines an excellent jazz trio with subtle string charts that never swamp the intimate feeling of the disc. London came to fame by recording stripped-down sessions with just guitar and bass, so it makes sense that on For the Night People, an unidentified jazz guitarist gets to solo throughout the album. A typically low-key and melancholy session, standout tracks include a languid reading of the usually manic “Won’t You Come Home Bill Bailey” and two songs made famous by Frank Sinatra — “Saturday Night (Is the Loneliest Night in the Week)” and “I’ll Never Smile Again.” This album is a must-have for Julie London fans and thankfully she worked with Bagley again on the more upbeat but no-less-languid Nice Girls Don’t Stay for Breakfast, which keeps the guitar heard here, but after the title track replaces the strings with a jazz organ and horn.
